I loved this book! There has never been a more complete book written on this subject i have read. It will teach you about gear, music, techniques, business advice, and the industry as a whole. If you have never touched DJ gear, you will learn everything you need to start doing gigs. If you have DJ'd for a while like I have, you will pick up great tips to rejuvenate your love of it. Really fun read!

I started deejaying back in 2017 through private lessons. Unfortunately, due to relocating internationally and not having the proper equipment or connections like I had when I first started, I was a bit lost on how to get back started. I follow Digital DJ Tips on social media and saw the promotions. I decided to give it a try. This book reminded me of a lot of the basics that I honestly forgot over time as well as introducing me to a lot of good info that I never considered. It also pointed out many things that I had been doing right up until that point. The language in the book was very down to earth and easy to understand (I did spot one grammatical error or typo. I'm a former ESL teacher so I notice these things but it didn't take away from the overall message :) ) I used it to pass time at work a lot. I definitely recommend it to any aspiring DJs or DJs who (like me) are trying to get back into the game.

This book is excellent, like most everything Phil produces. It is great overview of all things DJ for beginnings, but even experienced pros like me will get great ideas or have blanks filled in as well. Highly recommended to any current or aspiring DJs.

I started DJing in 2010. I literally saw a cool DJ video on YouTube and decided it would fun. The next day I found myself at a music store and after 3 hours purchased a controller (outside of my budget and not what I needed in the least). I had to figure out everything - where to get music; how to organize it; how to hook up everything; how to get gigs. There was so much trial and error. This book really compresses years worth of experience into an easy to digest format. I really wish this was available when I started.

For someone who is new to DJing and wants to get an excellent overview of the basics, this is a great book. I have gone on to Phil's other more advanced video and written guides which are also excellent but this lays down those very important first things to think about.

I have been using digital Dj tips for over a year now and love all the training and tips. I would recommend them to anyone serious about being a better than average Dj.

Even just in the first chapter I am learning so many useful tips. I can't wait to get into the rest of it! Great models and recommendations. It is just so nice to have all of this wonderful information offline and all in one plalce. Lots of great tips to ensure you are on the right track in your DJ journey!

I have no doubt Ghandi was extraordinary, but the author's own worshipful admiration of the man prevented him from reporting objectively. The author described Ghandi in gushing terms like "his feet scarcely touched the earth and he seemed almost to be flying", as if he is describing a superhero or a saint instead of a human being, which did not, in my opinion, make Ghandi to be a believable character. This was more of a book on philosophy than anything else. The details of Ghandi's life and of Indian history are relegated to a timeline at the back of the book which seems to have been added as an afterthought. Ghandi certainly gained the admiration of the world, but how exactly he changed it remains a mystery.

Nilgiri Press has produced a high quality book in "Gandhi the man: How one man changed himself to change the world" by Eknath Easwaran. Easwaran is a well-known writer who came under the influence of Gandhi while a student. He has also written well about the Gita, the Upanishads, and is known for teaching and writing about meditation, especially passage meditation. In this book, Easwaran, describes in a idiosyncratic, yet, illuminating way, various facets of Gandhi's life. Inevitably, he frequently quotes the Gita, its ideals, and describes how Gandhi, in his view, clearly epitomized those ideals."The second chapter of the Bhagavad Gita ends with a description of the highest state of human consciousness a human being can attain. It is the fullest expression of the Gita ideal. ....They live in wisdom Who...Not agitated by grief or ...pleasureThey life free from lust and fear and anger....They are not elated by good fortuneNor depressed by bad. "Easwaran continues "These are the verses which summarize Gandhi's life. For more than fifty years he meditated on them morning and night and devoted all his effort to translating them... into his daily action. They are the key to his self-transformation" Two aspects of this publication stand out. One: more than seventy black and white photographs, many of them page-size, and a few double spreads. The book, per the acknowledgement section, grew from an exhibition of photographs honoring Gandhi at U C Berkeley, in 1969, his centenary. For this edition Nilgiri Press is using restored images licensed by the GandhiServe Foundation in Berlin,Germany, the largest photo archive of Indian Independence movement extant. Two: throughout the book, there are quotations from Gandhi, giving the reader unique insight into the quiet humor, the steely determination, the indomitable will, the adherence to non-violent resistance of the man. Easwaran adds his personal observation of Gandhi frozen in meditation at evening prayer, of Gandhi's speed and energy in walking. Easwaran was there at the time of the salt satyagraha " to break a statute that made the sale and manufacture of salt a government monopoly ". "The salt march provided brilliant theater. Gandhi and his small band of volunteers took fourteen days to reach the sea, stopping at every village along the way and making headlines....When he picked up a handful of salt from the beach and raised it as a signal to the rest of India, ....the country simply exploded in utterly nonviolent disobedience of British law." The narrative is hardly linear, it traces back to Gandhi's South Africa lawyer days and his well-known struggles and triumphs on behalf of peoples there. His cryptic prophecy to the racist General Smuts that he would prevail, was also fulfilled. Later, Smuts acknowledged as much, humorously. Lest it should be thought that the book is a hagiography, it points out that a young Mohandas Gandhi before leaving for South Africa, a freshly minted lawyer, did not have great success in the courts of Bombay and even drew some derision from colleagues. He was sponsored for the voyage. Easwaran quotes Mahadev Desai, Gandhi's secretary who was asked in amazement by Londoners as to how Gandhi held forth on behalf of Indians at the Round Table Conference for over two hours without prepared notes. Desai is said to have replied that it is because of Gandhi's singleness of mind. He did not feel one thing and say another. Easwaran develops on this point, talking about yoga, and he goes on to remark on the absence of fear and a peace that permeated the Gandhi ashram. An appendix ("Chronology,Maps, and Notes") contains a timeline of key events, a map of pre-independence India, and a few short articles titled Ahimsa, Satyagraha, Satyagraha Today, round out the book. There is plenty for everyone in this 2011 fourth edition, but the rare restored photos alone make this one a keeper.

Though this book feels like it has been cobbled together from different sources it provides a sense of Gandhi's spiritual growth and the sources for it. His ideas and principles are clearly and often repeatedly stated offering the student the benefit of repetition in varied words. I'll be reading it again and again to extract a summary of those. Recommended for beginning Gandhi explorers.

Gandhi the Man is an excellent overview of Gandhi’s life and his push for nonviolent resistance. There are lots of pictures and quotes throughout. I recommend it to anyone who wants to learn a little bit about Gandhi.

I was looking for a historical account of Gandhi's life. Gandhi's autobiography does not explain enough of the political and social realities of India during his time, to enable the reader to truly appreciate his difficulties and his accomplishments. This book is the loving look of a devotee at a master, not the account of a history scholar.

Of the several books I read in preparation for guiding an exhibition on Gandhi and Non-violence, I liked this one the best. Not particularly long, but very rich in texts and analysis, in photos and quotations, by an author who grew up in Gandhi’s India and has always remained close through his academic and meditational work. Gandhi really comes alive in this book

This is a beautiful book that tells Ghandi's story through wonderful photographs and a simple and elucidating text. Ghandi appears os a struggling human being who changes himself through hard work. It really is a story of transformation, and it's very well told here. I liked it so well, I used it as part of our study on world revolutions when I was teaching ninth grade last year, and the students also liked it very much.

Purchased this book for my Mom, a true green thumb, for Christmas and she LOVES it! She has said thank you several times and recently told me she has to force herself to not read ahead so she can savor it over a whole year, LOL!

A wonderful book! One doesn't even need to be a gardener to enjoy this book. It might even encourage a non-gardener. The writer is very entertaining and has a special gift of humor. The diary format is great.

Sweet little captions or short blurbs about gardening...some funny, some serious, but all gardeners know how true it all is!

I am enjoying reading this book at bedtime because the author was clearly enthusiastic about gardens and gardening, and so am I. I concur with another reviewer who pointed out that the author was very well-to-do (tips usually take the form of "have xyz done," assuming you have someone to work for you), so most of us would not relate well. What bothers me most, however, is that there are a few racial and gender statements typical of phrases and attitudes in the 1920s that are quite offensive now. In fact, when the first instance cropped up, it affected my whole attitude to the writer, although I know he was a product of his time. The author's comments on the cosiness and security of home during bad weather or bad times and other domesticalities do stand the test of time, though, and I've enjoyed some laughs from his comments on visitors from the city.All things considered, you may want to check the book out of a library and see if you like it - or can tolerate the occasional un-PC lapses.

If you like gardening memoirs, this one is pretty good. Some of his comments are dated, but he is generally good-humored.

It is a timeless piece of work for any serious gardener and will keep you company through all sorts of gardening trials and tribulations s well as successes and conquests. I have given many copies to my most beloved friends.

To summarize it, this book is a waste of money.First of all, this book is full of fluff with a lot of extraneous matter, especially if you are pressed for time and the PSAT is nearing. We were only interested in practicing the Verbal (Reading+Writing) sections for my son. The verbal questions have quite a few errors, and the writing section which is supposed to be grammar asks for the main idea of the passage - i.e. it is structured like the reading test. My son, even while taking the test remarked that many of the questions are ambiguous or poorly framed got 4 wrong on the reading section, and 10 wrong on the writing test #2. For comparison, he has scored near perfect on both the math and Verbal sections according to the official college board sample PSAT test + the other tests on Khan academy.Also really annoying and disappointing is that only one test is included in the book. To take the second online test, you have to register online and disclose a lot of personal information about your child including contact information, which I supposed will be used for marketing Kaplan's other services like coaching classes..The Barron's guide is better than this book, but the PSAT book from Ivy-Global with 3 sample tests proved to have the most accurate sample tests compared to the official tests from college board/Khan academy.

I am a math tutor in Staten Island, NY, and have been for 35 years. I bought two copies of this book: one for an SAT student of mine and one for myself. The math sections are terrible. There are questions that are poorly worded, so that there is no way to know what the author meant. In these cases I had to look at the answer in order to know what the question really was. This is not helpful for a student working on his/her own. There are other questions that are written correctly, and have beautifully written explanations, BUT THAT ARE INCORRECT! They are answers and explanations for similar problems, but not for the one asked. It got to the point where I couldn't get through even one lesson without losing significant time to these kinds of errors. I had to stop using the book. I have had these problems with Kaplan books for over ten years, and I am now giving up on them. I will not waste my time and money, nor the time and money of my students, on any more Kaplan books. You would think that a company that prints many tens of thousands (I'm guessing) of the same test prep book that is sold all over the country, this year and for the next few years, and I assume makes good money doing so, would want to publish one with good material. I guarantee you that the math sections in this book were not edited by anyone with a masters or Ph.D. in mathematics. It is clear to me after all these years of dealing with this same problem with their SAT prep books, as well as with their h.s. entrance books, that Kaplan doesn't care about the content of their books, their reputation, or the students they are hurting with faulty questions, and wrong answers and explanations. In contrast, I have never found even one error in any College Board book. If there is a mistake or two in a book, I can note them and still use the book; however, the Kaplan books I've used are so riddled with mistakes that they are not good learning tools. It makes me sad to think how many students working on their own with Kaplan prep books have spent their time only to be confused and taught the wrong thing. Kaplan is putting the growth of their bottom line above helping the students who buy their books, and they should be ashamed of themselves.

The only reason I am giving this review two stars is because it attempts to help prepare an incoming 11th grader for the PSAT.First off, I noticed a good amount of questions have errors in them including wrong numbering of the lines in the reading section and repeating the same answer choice for letter choices.Also, pertaining to the reading section, there are comparatively difficult words that the book expects you to know, yet the College Board had specifically said that the words would be challenging, but simple enough that the meaning can be determined by the context. However, in the PSAT there is no context when the difficult vocabulary is in the answer choices.The answer explanations in the back of the book are very broad and do not explain why certain answers aren't correct even if they seem to be. This is not as much needed for the math section, but is vital for the reading and writing sections. Some answers are phrased "C summarizes the main idea of the passage" and doesn't even explain what that main idea is.The math content in the book is okay. The questions seem adequate, but the Kaplan Strategy they tell you to do everytime is very contradicting, because they also tell you to spend the smallest amount of time as you can. However, the Kaplan strategy can easily take 2-4 minutes for a question that should only take 1.The grammar section of the book is okay, and explains a good amount of grammatical functions like usage and punctuation as well as misused words.The practice in the book is good enough, but I would highly recommend using the Collegeboard New SAT book to help prepare as it is made by the people who also produce the test and this year, the new SAT coming in March is very similar to the new PSAT. I hope this helped!

Book is excellent and the one practice test in the book is fabulous. Comes with detail explanations. However the online test doesn't exist. It's a ploy to get you to sign up for their online tutoring. I went through several pages of "registering" my book only to discover the resource "is no longer available." Very disappointing.

Used to study for the PSAT 2015. My son had no complaints about it. I guess we'll see when the scores come in but he seemed to have an easy time of it.

My son used this as preparation for the PSAT with an online class. He seemed to do well on the test and was in good spirits upon completion.

The questions in this book are poorly written. Many explanations are vague and irrelevant. This is a rushed publication the make a quick buck. The Kaplan SAT prep books in the years before this one were much better quality.

I bought both this map (National Geographic "Alaska's Inside Passage") and A Great Pacific Map "Southeast Alaska and Inside Passage" (Southeast Alaska's Inside Passage Recreation Map & Cruise Guide, 4th Edition). I was surprised no one else had compared these two maps, so here's my two cents.The National Geographic map has more "guide book" type information than the Great Pacific Map. Personally, since I also checked out several travel guides from the local library to enhance my trip planning process, I didn't need this from my map. If you aren't doing any other research, however, the National Geographic might be your best choice.The National Geographic map is larger, but not by too much. It's about six inches bigger in each dimension. Because it is bigger, they fit more of the map image on a single side of the map. National Geographic would be a better choice to hang up on a wall. HOWEVER, more image on one side means the scale is smaller. The Great Pacific Map chops up the Inside Passage into more sections spread over both sides of the map, but you are seeing a more "zoomed in" image with more detail as a result. Only the Great Pacific Map gives you city street maps for the most commonly visited ports. If you plan to rent a car in port, that makes the Great Pacific Map attractive.Both maps feel "water resistant", not like plain paper. The Great Pacific Map is my preference as it is a thicker weight of coated paper. The Great Pacific Map doesn't fold down quite as flat due to the thickness. The National Geographic is a nice quality map, however, and does have a slick/coated feel that I assume will hold up just fine.Only the National Geographic gives a view of the entire state of Alaska. It's hardly detailed enough for travel inland, but is nice for putting the Inside Passage into perspective to those with shakier geography, like kids. You need this hugely zoomed out view to find Hubbard Glacier on the National Geographic, because the close-up map ends before Yukatat. If you're the type to wonder, "What's that mountain over there?" and you're going to Hubbard Glacier, you'll prefer the Great Pacific Map.I'm happiest to report that BOTH of these maps are good references, and I'd have been satisfied with either one. Having seen both side by side to compare, I personally would choose the Great Pacific Map, but that will really be a toss up, depending upon what, exactly, the traveler is looking for in a map.Finally, I'd strongly recommend at least reading Joe Upton's Alaska Cruise travel guide The Alaska Cruise Handbook: A Mile-by-Mile Guide 2012 edition before you go. I didn't feel the need to purchase a copy after borrowing it from my local library, but I did use it to annotate my own personal cruise schedule with highlights to watch for and places I wouldn't want to miss in port. I've decorated my Great Pacific Map with post-it arrows Post-it Arrow Flags, Assorted Bright Colors, 1/2-Inch Wide, 24/Dispenser, 4-Dispensers/Pack, too.

We went on an amazing Alaskan cruise in 2014. I've started framing maps of places that we've been for decoration around our house. This map is a beautiful reminder of that trip! It's amazing to see how far each port was from each other. You don't realize it at the time when you travel so much during the night. The map has great detail and even shows the route of the Alaskan Highway System (via boats/ferry).

Good quality. We enjoyed having it on the cruise as I like to see what is around me when traveling. Now that we are hope bursting with good memories we will get half our money back by posting on Ebay. Happy.

Very useful as we are planning a small boat cruise and wanted a detailed map of the area. I only gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I would have liked an even more detailed map naming bays, rivers, small settlements ETC.Still the best map we have found and I would recommend it highly.

We had this map up on the wall of our aft facing balcony cabin on Radiance of the Seas last June. It made it very easy to see where were and where we were going. It made the trip more interesting. Not everyone cares where they are when they're on a cruise, but if you do, this is the map for you

If you make and share anything from this book, prepare to be overwhelmed with people asking you things like, "you can make marshmallows at home?", "how did you do this?!", "how is it possible that these are so much better than marshmallows from the bag?!"...My favorite thing about the book is that there is absolutely no ambiguity. The author tells you what brand of ingredients were tested, what she recommends, the exact temperatures required, which mixer setting to use and for how long. None of that, "mix on medium until it looks like some obscure substance you're not familiar with as a comparison." These details make the recipes so foolproof and will give you amazing results even on your first batch!The book itself is also just so charming. The front and back covers are squishy, the images are beautiful and full of vibrant colors, the writing is witty and sweet. The recipes range from vanilla, which is simply amazing, to creative combos like maple bacon marshmallows - how fun! The book also includes a section of desserts that utilize marshmallows as a component if you're not into eating an entire pan of marshmallows... Not that there is anything wrong with that.

As a marshmallow aficionado with a highly developed palate for marshmallows, it is my expert opinion that the recipes in this book make the best marshmallows ever. A huge variety of flavors and very clear recipes. Even directions for fluff and mini marshmallows. I also appreciate the author's great sense of humor. I have made a lot of these marshmallows and they have been a big hit. I made "Peeps" for Easter and my family actually preferred them to the real thing. I get requests for different flavors. I also appreciate the tips and suggestions for getting creative with your own ideas for marshmallow making and using the marshmallows. A word to the wise though, candy making can be tricky so it's important to follow the recipes precisely and it really helps to have the right tools.

Every cook should know how to make marshmallows, and this fine little one-topic cookbook will help you master the technique quite easily. It is nicely put together, and with at least 60 marshmallow recipes, the book provides a very nice assortment of marshmallow flavors. Plus, there are plenty more recipes and ideas for incorporating your marshmallows into other desserts, creating interesting shapes, and working the marshmallows into cones, on sticks, etc. In other words, besides the actual flavor recipes, the author provides plenty more recipes, ideas and inspiration to fuel your marshmallow madness.The author utilizes a technique with which I was unfamiliar. It is quicker and easier than the method I had previously used. This author uses gelatin; not egg whites. She's got the process divided into three parts: Melting the gelatin (the bloom); creating the syrup, and "mallowing" (putting it all together). She incorporates flavoring in all three steps. Dividing the process into three steps seems to help simplify the recipes for me.I got interested in making marshmallows after reading an article in one of the cooking/food magazines several years ago, and I'd been using those few recipes with my own variations to make marshmallows for my Christmas cookie trays. I liked the variety that the marshmallows provided. But the process was time-consuming. Now, with these new recipes, I might just become a marshmallow-makin'-fool!And, last but not least: You've got to just love the puffy hard cover of the book!

I don't purchase as many cookbooks as I would like because I usually feel that they aren't worth the 3-4 decent recipes I get out of them, but I am glad I made this purchase. Sometimes it's nice to have the book in hand rather than searching the net for good recipes and let's face it, this book is just cute. Last night I made Passionfruit marshmallows. This particular recipe variation isn't actually in the book, but I based it on the Strawberry recipe and got great results. I'll admit, I was a bit wary of how they were going to turn out based on two factors. One, I have never made marshmallows with dividing the corn syrup like this book calls for. Then I wasn't sure if the amount of Passionfruit puree was going to be too acidic or watery. My fears were cast aside when this morning I turned out a nice pan of amazing treats! The tartness of the Passionfruit(Bioron brand)is amazing with the sweetness of the marshmallow.The texture of this marshamallow recipe is just perfect. One thing that my husband pointed out in reading the recipe to me as I was keeping watch on the bubbling syrup was a slightly confusing reference regarding the bloom and gelatin. The recipes are broken down into Bloom, Syrup and Mallowing.I added the gelatin to the fruit puree which is now called the Bloom, but when the directions call for melting the gelatin in the microwave for 30 seconds to soften, my husband stopped and asked if I had already added the gelatin to someting. He pointed out that it should have been referred to as the Bloom. I could see how this could confuse someone. Once the gelatin has been added to a liquid, the remainder of the recipe it should be referred to as the Bloom. I had to laugh at the two 1 star reviews. Come on people! One person obviously can't follow a simple direction if they were cooking a syrup and saving it for use days later. That doesn't warrant a 1 star review if you can't follow basic instructions. The other 1 star review was just weak! The person claims to be a professional chef and instructor and can't teach his/her students because the recipes aren't converted into metric measurements. Please!! This is a book for the US based home candy maker, not a professional kitchen. I spent 16 months at a very well known culinary academy and we were taught how to convert a recipe. It's called simple math.
