Extremely well written. romantic and yet a roller coaster ride of suspense. I enjoyed this very much and look forward to the next book in the series.
The Soldier Prince is an interesting Romantic story between a waitress and a prince.Sasha is an ambitious individual who wants to become a writer and works as a waitress in a restaurant to meet her expenses. Alexander is the member of the Royal family of Stellangard who is in disguise for personal reasons working in a construction company. It is a love at first sight for Sasha watching Alexander daily as a generous customer who donates food to the poor. Accidentally, Sasha finds out about the murder attempt on Alexander and saves him. The love story starts from there. Romance, relationships, complications with Royal life, protocols, responsibilities, national politics, political strategies etc., fill up the remaining story. What I liked?I liked the romance, the family politics and the details about the royal family. This reminded me of Mills and Boons novels where the Prince charming is the handsome hero and the heroine is an attractive and intelligent middle-class damsel. The Romance, conversations and the complications of being a member of the royal family are covered well and are relatable. The women characters are strong, opinionated and independent - Sasha, Daria, and Lena etc.,Since this is the first part of the series, we can expect another great story about Lena, Alexander's sister in the next part.Stellangard being a not so popular place, made the background of the story look fresh and interesting. The narration is casual and the flow of events is good. What can be better?Since this is the first part of the series, I felt the story is incomplete, which is natural. But, I would have enjoyed reading more about Lena and Alexander's parents. I felt the story is stretching a bit unnecessarily at some point. My Rating: 4/5I would recommend this to the readers who love action-packed romance.I rate books by the 5-star rating system.1/5: I hated it2/5: Below average, I don't like it.3/5: It is ok with some faults.4/5: I liked it and I recommend it to others though it has slight imperfections.5/5: It is awesome and I will definitely recommend it to others.ps: I have received the ARC from the author for review and this is my honest opinion on the book.
I read a lot of romances, they are my go-to comfort reads when I have a lot going on, and need an escape. And in 2018, I seemed to have a lot going on all the time! Which meant I read more romances this year than any other year. But on the other hand, precisely because I read so many romances, it was also difficult for any one single book to stand out. However I have to say that this one did. This had everything I love in a romance, and more. I loved the characters, and the story. It was perfectly paced with the right mix of make-you-weak-in-the-knees romance, and romantic angst, with a bit of action/thrills thrown in, and a swoon-worthy happily-ever-after.Also, I did not realize this before, but I seem to have a thing for the Royal Romance sub genre. Or maybe it's just this one, because for some reason, I was drawing parallels between this story and the Harry & Meghan romance.Which btw, are two very different love stories, with not all that much in common, except in my silly romantic heart. But considering I love Meghan & Harry, there might have been a bit of what is called "transference" of feelings.Either way, this is a delightful read, perfect for cozy weekend reading.- Shantala at Shanaya Tales Dot Com
Royal romances are having a moment right now, and The Soldier Prince fits right next to the great royal romances on my shelf. This book has a delicious twist, though. Part romantic suspense, part contemporary romance, the book follows Alex and Sasha from New York City across the ocean to Alex's castle in the Swiss Alps.Sasha is a waitress and a student in NYC. She gets tangled up in some seriously scary stuff revolving around one of her customers, Alex, and then all of the sudden she's being whisked away to Europe. Sasha is so incredibly relatable throughout this entire book. She's got overbearing parents, a dream of being a romance writer, and a knack for dramatics. At the start of this book, Alex came off as cold and unfeeling. In reality, he was anything but, he just kept his fire hidden and controlled. Since his mother passed away 10 years ago Prince Alex has been grieving her and playing the "what if" game. He blames himself for her passing and a whole host of other things. Then he meets Sasha and for the first time, he feels something. And when Sasha puts herself in danger for him? He's a goner who takes control and sweeps her up into his crazy, royal net. Alex's icy demeanor eventually warms up once he's back in his castle, though fear keeps him from pursuing Sasha until the mystery of who is after him, and her, is solved.A lot about this book worked for me. The plot and the suspense were top-notch. I was kept on my toes from start to finish and the book held my interest so much that I read it quickly, gobbling it up whenever I could. That being said, the romance between Alex and Sasha came off as mechanical and a bit...blah. The two never connected for me on an emotional or sexual level, I wanted there to be some tangible tension between the two and it just never arrived.Still, this book was a solid royal read. 3.5 stars for The Soldier Prince by Aarti V.
