The book is very easy to read, and it is very interesting. The author weaves in the need for patents and other intellectual property protection very well into the invention process. This is far better coverage on the strategy of patents than I have ever read before.But for me the best part was the overall process recommended by the author. He shows us how to have marketing and manufacturing concerns guide the invention process from the beginning. He also presents a very detailed analysis of how to go about inventing a product using the problems and concerns of the customer as a basis for your product. This, again, was very well done.The author has invented, and now teaches inventing. This book serves as his seminar material.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.John Dunbar

For the most part, this book answers may questions to construct a patent strategy. While good, it does shotgun information where a tighter focus would have been more beneficial. However, this is one reader's opinion who is in the field who tried to find a resource to pass along to assist in gaining a perspective. The book presented a reasonable background on intellectual property in general, and provided some insight into the steps one could take to move from patent to profit.

I have included my review of the previous edition, with minor updating, as it is still applicable. The additional material in this edition is a nice improvement, as is the lower price.However, there is now a caveat. In my opinion, the publishers made an unfortunate decision to publish this in one volume. It needs to be published in two parts. While publishing in one volume may reduce costs, it is definitely not user-friendly. Its now weighs almost 6-1/2 pounds. This makes it very, very difficult, perhaps impossible, to carry and use easily. Its weight requires a table, or large book support, be used to work comfortably. The previous edition was almost two pounds lighter, and had a smaller size, making that edition comfortable to handle. I had no problem carrying it with me to refer to as time allowed. The weight and size of this edition make that, for me, impossible.This is an excellent text for self-study or as a supplement to a classroom text. It is fairly wide ranging, covering a large portion of the mathematics needed during the first few years of an engineering, or physical science program. However, it is not quite comprehensive, lacking some areas that have gained significant importance in recent times, e.g, discrete transforms. Although some Fourier Series and transforms are covered in the companion volume "Advanced Engineering Mathematics".The pretests and revision (more commonly called review in the US) sections are quite helpful. The book de-emphasizes formal definitions, as concepts and intuitive descriptions are provided in conjunction with examples. However, in some instances this can lead to problems, where the appropriate problem-solving approach is well-presented but the lack of a formal definition can lead to some "fuzziness". In these cases an inexpensive mathematics dictionary, or standard text, should provide the needed clarity.Some sections or chapters are quite elementary and may not be needed by many readers. For example, the book starts with an approximately 60 page section on arithmetic.The book is well designed and laid out with black type, avoiding the distracting overuse of color found in some competing texts. The authors are usually quite clear, and quickly get to the "meat" of a topic. Extra material is kept to a minimum. One section where this is not true is the Programme F.10 (section) on Functions where unneeded, and arguably unhelpful, box graphics are introduced and used fairly extensively to visually denote the the ideas of function input and output. However, the boxes are not standard mathematical constructs for handling functions. In my opinion, these extraneous constructs are an unnecessary distraction, as the function notation carries with it all the structure needed for comprehension, and is what students will see in later work. In reviewing the 6th edition, I had hoped these boxes would be eliminated in later editions. However, they are, unfortunately, retained for this edition.The book still shows a much earlier publishing heritage as some mathematical terms no longer in common usage are nonetheless retained.For a book this large in size, there are an unusually small number of errors or misstatements and these are usually obvious. One example where this is not true is when the authors use the terms "range" and "co-domain", page 271, incorrectly as synonyms.This is an outstanding and well-written book. The book's presentation of desired learning outcomes, i.e., behavioral objectives, at the start of each Programme is excellent. Material is presented in easily digestible short sections that allow for breaks to be taken at almost any time, without the need to stop in the middle of an unfinished section. Pretest quizzes allow readers to determine what sections they can skip and what sections they need to work on. There are very few backward references to previously covered material. A minor deficiency is the lack of more formal definitions. These are usually not needed. In a number of cases they would help aid understanding and reduce the chance of encountering unexpected problems in later work. However, the book's strong emphasis on carefully developing concepts needed to comfortably handle the mathematical manipulation and problem solving skills required for engineering is exceptional.There are additions in this edition, but if the 6th can be found at a significantly lower price, not the case on Amazon at the time of this review, it would likely serve as well. Owing to its lighter weight and size, that edition may prove even more useful for those who spend considerable time away from their home/office/classroom/etc.This edition's uncomfortably large size and weight is compensated for by its outstanding content. It continues to deserve the highest recommendation.

What a great book! I have been using it to touch up my math. As an engineering major, I am required to take some tough math courses, but in practice you don't always get to use it, so it can slip away. This book could teach a beginner how to do this math well, but isn't an elementary book. It explains exactly how each concept comes to be, offers guided examples, and then tests and end-of-chapter assignments.As an example: I was looking at the differentiation section. It isn't a difficult topic to be able to do, but sometimes people don't always get the backround education of why you are doing what you are. This book derives the way a derivative is derived. Haha. In all honesty, it tells you why you are doing what you are doing, and effectively teaches you how to perform on real examples as well.I would highly recommend this book to engineers. I would also recommend it to anyone in a math course in high school or college that they want some extra help on. Or if you are just doing self-study, this book is what you want to buy. Great examples, great teaching style. Organized.

This is a great book for people who need to know math, but don't love math. I think of it as math without pain. Actually, I am a lover of math, so I read this book like most people read novels....for relaxation and recreation. It sure beats watching television.

This is an excellent book for those who wish to review stuff long forgotten AND for those who wish to get a good grasp of basic math areas. Topics range from number systems to calculus and differential equations with a goodly amount of algebra in between. The pedagogy used here is 'Programmed Instruction' which emphasizes the mechanics of how things are done rather than the theory behind them and subsequent proofs. Therefore, this is NOT a mathematics textbook for readers who wish to explore topics in-depth. For example, you will get much practice in how to compute derivatives of a function but you will NOT get the theory behind WHY the derived function gives the slope of the parent function.In the seventies this 'Programmed Instruction' was quite a common technique for students in junior colleges and/or trade schools where the requirement was mostly 'know how to do it and forget about theory'. Consequently, if you are a self-learner this book will help you get a good foundation and later, if so inclined, you can get more theory by going with Apostol's Calculus and many other great texts. For those who have forgotten math topics and/or those who really did not 'get it' the first time around this book is an excellent crutch.This is an excellent learning and review tool. Well worth the price and I recommend it highly.

Each programme covers a specific topic. The author provides a brief explanation of the concept involved and then worked examples. You then have the opportunity to work a problem, and then a detailed solution is provided right away.The writing is clear and concise. Each programme is a condensed yet powerful presentation of the basic concepts. The book covers a broad range of topics, but there are some advanced topics that are not included.In summary, I highly recommend this book.

Love, love, love this book! Now, this is not a book of pretty pictures per say that you can emulate as you dress for your day, so if that is what you are looking for I would suggest The Wardrobe Wakeup by Johnson or better, People's Style magazine or my personal fav- Pinterest! BUT, if you want to learn more about the psychology behind style and how your outward appearance is reflected by your inner feelings and how your self-esteem can be boosted by dressing 'as if' you are successful, as the author suggests, then this is a MUST read! I volunteer at a non-profit organization that helps women empower themselves through career advice and the effect of dressing for success, and this book has given me so much information to pass on to my clients as well as some 'aha' moments for myself! I highly recommend reading!

I have read several books on the topic and found this book completely useless!! Please, do not repeat my mistake and don’t waste your money. A few major things are fundamentally wrong with this book. Here are my thoughts:1. The content is extremely repetitive. Literally (and I mean LITERALLY) half the book goes on and on about one and the same thought that every woman is beautiful, has to be confident, is worth looking her best and should try looking her best. Seriously, that’s all.2. Don’t let the chapter titles fool you. They actually make a lot of sense and seem to be ordered logically (that’s why I bought the book). But that’s about all that makes sense here. Regardless of the name of the chapter, the content doesn’t change. The chapters could as well be called “alien invasion” or “where I spent my summer holidays”. The author goes on and on about the same idea „every woman is beautiful, has to have confidence, is worth looking her best and should try to look her best”.3. The book is extremely poorly structured. There is no logic in how information is presented. It feels like the author did a very hasty and sloppy job writing the book.4. The book lacks any practical tips that women would find useful.5. Overpriced.6. I got this book because it had decent reviews. After reading it I went back on amazon to read them again. (I was amazed at how many people gave it good reviews. Why?!) Honestly, the most truthful reviews were 1 and 2 star reviews. It felt like the good reviews were given by people who maybe personally know the author (she seems to be very well connected) or people who maybe watch her on tv. I don’t know. Didn’t feel to me that the good reviews were genuine.Bottom line: don’t waste your time and money. Skip this one... do yourself a favor and skip it.

This one was bad. Just bad. The focus is on psychology and self esteem, which is great for those who need a pick-me-up in that department. It felt like reading something by Dr. Phil. (I had the horrible experience of trying that once many years ago). It's the same repetitive chatter in Every Single Chapter. The few chapters at the very end that touch a little, and I mean very little, on color charts and body shape can be found in abundance on Pinterest. You will learn nothing from this book if you are looking for inspiration on updating your look.

It's actually a great read for those in need of finding their personal style. I already had one, but I bought and gifted this book to all the 13-18 year old girls in my family. I want them to know the difference between a trend and a style; and dressing etiquette.

I've never seen this woman as I don't watch The Today Show, but I did read a review and liked what I read so I bought the book. This is a good resource book to have. She asks you to look into yourself to find your outer self, which is a different approach - and it's a good one. I highly recommend this book. It's an easy read. She gives you little assignments to aid you in finding your personal style. She's current as well, updating old Color Me Beautiful color guides. I am not a fashion person normally, but this was a fun read for me.

Bobbie Thomas is such a fun, spirited young lady, and even though I am middle aged, this book inspires me to lighten up my wardrobe and learn new ways to grow older with more class! Great ideas for the style of clothes for your body type that I really appreciated. I really like it and think changing your styles and way of looking at yourself, is a growing experience.

This is the first in the series. It is so good, I couldn't believe it. I couldn't put it down, and I'm a grandma! Adults will enjoy this thoroughly. Got it and the 2nd one in the series for a birthday present for my grand-daughter. I also got the audio CD's for both to accompany them with the narrator as Jim Dale. He is probably the best narrator you will ever hear. Audio along with a physical book is a good idea as the child can read along & hear the story at the same time. It teaches them to read faster, and develops the brain also.

I've been a huge fan of Peter Pan for a long as I can remember and this series answered one question for me that anything else written had yet to answer. How does a baby, who states he left his home the day he was born live in a place where he is not supposed to age, but ages anyway? Well, this book fully answered that question as well as gave an interesting new take on how Peter Pan came to be. I randomly found this book after reading The Child Thief and thought it would be fun to go on a Peter Pan kick since I am using the movie in my ELL class so we can talk about the idea of wanting to remain a child. I will be able to use parts of this book in the lesson, but more than anything, this book was a fun read.

I want to start by saying if you have listened to Jim Dale read the Harry Potter books, THIS BOOK IS A MUST for you. The book is certainly aimed at children. By at age 28 I still deeply enjoyed this book & you should too. This is a fantastic backstory to Peter Pan. I dont want to spoil any of the plot, but just know that it has a cast of characters that you will love & care about. Thank you Jim Dale for such a great read, you are the best!

I've been a fan of Dave Barry's humor column since it was still in print, so I decided to get this book to read to my kids. I couldn't put it down and read it to them in less than a month (over 400 pages!). I found myself wanting to read ahead when the kids weren't available to listen. Action, humor, and a well-developed storyline are all present from the first chapter. I'll be purchasing the next one in this series.

I loved the premise for this series, and once I came to know the award-winning Broadway show, I thought I'd finally get around to reading the first book. It's a very clever origin story, told through the perspective of several central characters - not just Peter. There are some twists and turns, but mostly there is a lot of heart. Even the coldest of characters have traits you come to love. It's an easy, quick read. Sometimes it just feels good to sit down and read something that flows with a vivid and assured pace. This story never slows down and leaves you wanting more. I just bought the second book!

BEST BOOK SERIES I'VE EVER READ!!!!!!I love this entire series. I swear, I could read it over and over and over and never get tired of it! The story goes that Peter is an orphan, going on a ship with basically pixie dust, if pixie dust did more than just make people fly. Along the way, he encounters some characters like a pirate, named Black Stache but soon to become Captain Hook, and Molly. I've never read the classic Peter Pan, but from the dedication, it sounded like a prequel to Peter Pan. And there is so much I love about this entire series that all I can really say is read it yourself and either agree or disagree with me that these books are awesome.

Peter and the Starcatchers is a very inventive, fun book for any age. if you've seen the Broadway play and expect it the book the be exactly like it, you might be disappointed... or you might like it just as much, as I did. the language is in keeping with a book from Barrie's time, tho not as overtly formal. the characters, especially Capt. Stache, are sometimes a bit over the top, but that's just more fun for me. Each of the short chapters ends with a bit of a cliffhanger, so they're perfect for reading before bedtime with children. You just want to read on and on! Molly is a great heroine (Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson both said they wrote this book for their daughters, so Molly is a strong heroine). Peter is clever and brave, and you can certainly see how he becomes Pan. Some of the violence in the latter half of the book took me a bit by surprise - the sharp-toothed "mermaids," pirates and Slank clubbing the children, etc. but, you know, that's what pirates did back then and Peter Pan had its own violence. I love a good swash and a bit of buckle, as Black Stache says in the stage show, so i found this book quite good. you also get lovely "back stories," like how the crocodile began to tick, how Hook lost his hand, and where John Darling got his top hat. That part almost made me cry.

I became a Peter Pan fan while reading this book. I love the authors' take on his origin. I also gave this book to my son's Language Arts tutor for Christmas. He was thrilled to know she loves to read it and it has become a favorite for her too.
