About the Author

Gordon Fisher Gordon Fisher, as a teenager, studied drafting and built plastic model cars. He got his start in 3D computer modeling back when one would have to create a 3D engineering drawing with a pencil and then input the information into a computer, vertex-by-vertex. He led a three-person crew in building 3D models of 80 aircraft for the U.S. Army Visual Aircraft Recognition program. He also built an accurate model of the 17th and 18th holes of the Pebble Beach golf course for Callaway Golf's golf simulator. He's currently working with the Open Luna Foundation to create models, X3D and 3D printed, of their parts of their proposed lunar base. He is the Creative Director at Point Happy Interactive. He has been using Blender professionally since 2002 and has given classes on using Blender and using Python with Blender at Python conferences in Texas and Arkansas. His work has been displayed at the National Air and Space Museum. He is also the author of the book Blender 3D Basics, published by Packt Publishing.

I will be keeping this book, because there is some useful information in it, but the fact that on Amazon it costs $.02 cents less than its cover price, and that it describes the colors of some graphics in the book, when there are no color drawings or photos (except for the front and back covers), makes me feel I've been ripped off. Yes, you can download a color PDF of the illustrations, but for $34.97, I certainly expected much more. Oh, in a 97 page book, you're told you need to already have a good grasp of Blender 3D. They certainly could have afforded to include the necessary basics of the program.

A must for anyone who plans to Print any 3d object on a 3d printer using blender as a driver format.

I did not like. Very confusing , I do not see the focus that the book.

The best choice for home 3d printing. It starts with a long introduction about 3d printing and types of 3d printers then it starts teaching you how to print without facing common problems.

No / Limited screen shots of the blender screens. I have other blender books that show screen shots almost every step of the way. Too much text offering a description of what to do. Problem is the terms used are not sufficiently clear. A photo/image is worth 1000 words !

The book is Blender specific of course but pretty much 3d-printer agnostic, so it's useful not only for printer owners but also for people who want to use online print shops.Pros:- shortabout 100 pages real content. Clear language as well, so you won't need much time to get up to speed- to the pointit won't tell you much about modelling as such but does show what elements of modelling need extra care when preparing a model for printing and how to fix problems- completeall you need to know for most common printing materials and printing techniques but of course with new materials becoming available every day you'll have to check the material specifications for things like minimum wall thickness if you want to try a new material but that is not a critique on the book. On the contrary, it does an excellent job of describing things like what influences surface detail, why wall thickness is important and when and how to deal with overhang.- good description of essential toolsBlender's 3D printing toolkit and mesh analysis tools are covered well and the use of the protractor tool (to measure distance and angles in your model) is explained very clearly.Cons:- uv-unwrapping and texture painting (for printers that support multicolored models) would have benefited from more in depth attention as these subjects are generally considered difficult by beginners- the price; I personally feel that the €13,56 list price for a 100 page e-book is steep, not to mention the almost €26,- price tag for the print version, but of course online retailers may give you a better deal.ConclusionGood book, well written. Based on the content alone I would give it 4.5 out of 5 stars but the unrealistic price tags lowers that to 4.

The book begins by explaining the many different types of 3D printers. Chapter Two discusses using Blender's Ruler/Protractor tool to keep the model within range of the printer's bed. Chapter 3 prepares the dragon for 3D printing. The author invites the reader to inspect the model using the Mesh Analysis tool to find distorted faces and intersecting polygons which can make holes in sculptures. The author discusses how to reduce printing costs as he guides the reader into making the dragon both light and strong and uses the solidify modifier to make sure the inner wall doesn't penetrate the outer wall. He uses the 3D tool box to inspect for manifold edges to produce a better quality sculpture and discusses the differences between different export files STL and X3D. The author guides the reader using the Boolean modifier to make a pencil cup as seen on the book's cover.

Mithras, Isis and Osiris, the Orphic Cult, the Eleusinian Mysteries, it is all in here! The sources for this work include inscriptions, old papyri, ancient codices, rediscovered palimpsests and other odd out of the way sources of ancient knowledge.A word of warning! Novices in ancient paganism should not attempt to physically recreate the rituals in this book, the tauroboleum is particularly messy! Plus I don't know where you can get a bull. But seriously, this book is the best place to get your hands on the actual texts the ancients utilized in their quest to meet the divine. If you are really interested, this book will only make for more, deeper and better questions as to the nature of the cults that were obliterated by the adoption of Christianity and its own wave of vengeful intolerance as it permanently became the official state religion of Rome in the 380s.

As the only holy book (besides the Bible) that has survived intact from antiquity I would recommend The Life of Apollonius of Tyana.

You'll discover the evidence firsthand, right from the pens of ancient authors.The Mysteries (the term comes from the Greek word for "initiation") were a group of Pagan religions, dating from roughly 600 BC, that were distinct from the more familiar Pagan temple worship. The Gods of the Mystery religions had differing names and myths, but the faiths themselves had features in common: their Gods died and came back to life; they were personal religions entered into voluntarily via initiation ceremonies that reenacted the God's death and rebirth and were often described as giving salvation and even eternal life; they had ritual celebrations including food and drink that reenacted a holy meal established by the God; their teachings brought the faithful closer to an understanding of God.Although you don't hear about them in Sunday School, mystery religions are an established part of modern religious scholarship. This book, complied by a mainstream scholar, is made up of a concise introduction to the Mysteries, followed by extended excerpts from ancient sources. You'll read about: the pagan god "incognito, disguised as a man"; pagan Gods dying and being reborn with the meaning that "the God is saved, and we shall have salvation."; initiation ceremonies described as "a voluntary death"; sacred meals; ceremonial washing; pagan miracles; the pagan god who changed water into wine; the pagan version of the great flood. And much more.Not always easy reading, but a powerful book for serious students. Highly recommended.

This book contains various translations of ancient works relating to mystery cults. A great deal of focus is placed on Greek and Roman works. This is therefore a nice reference to the topic.I found the translations to be, for the most part, clear, accessible, and to preserve a great deal of emotional power that these original sources had. This is an extremely important work on the subject.

Very well presented. The seeds of many of today's practicing religions can be found in the precepts of these early religions, but like another reviewer surmised, you won't find THESE stories taught in church! However, at that time in history, these tales and beliefs were just as engrained in the populace as are the "religions" practiced today. The things we call myths today weren't considered myths at all in antiquity, and I wonder if the things we are being taught today in churches won't be viewed as myths in the future. Warning! This book is only for the intelligent, open minded person.

About the Author

Rabbi Aryeh Kaplan was born in New York City and was educated in the Torah Voda'as and Mir Yeshivot in Brooklyn. After years of study at Jerusalem's Mir Yeshiva, he was ordained by some of Israel's foremost rabbinic authorities. He also earned a master's degree in physics and was listed in Who's Who in Physics in the United States. In the course of a writing career spanning only 12 years, Rabbi Kaplan earned a reputation as one of the most effective, persuasive, scholarly, and prolific exponents of Judaism in the English language. He died on January 28, 1983, at the age of 48.

Wow. This is a JUGGERNAUT.What it is:A delineation of the Kaballah as it is taught through the Sepher Yetzirah.What it contains:The Scripture itself and extensive commentary.An introduction of all the Sefirot and general Kaballah concepts.A plethora of POTENT meditations on the individual Sefirot and the Tree Of Life.This is a philosophy book and a workbook. Written by a knowledgeable teacher.

The Sefer Yetzirah, or The Book of Creation, was written approximately 3,000 BCE, and was the first Kabbalistic book to be written. It was written prior to Rabbi Shimon's Zohar, or The Book of Splendor. This version of The Sefer Yetzirah contains three versions. They are the short, middle, and long (my words) versions of the Kabbalistic version of the creation story. Aryeh Kaplan is one of those writers whose very name tells you that this is a worthy book and well researched and written. He has written many wonderful books on Kabbalah. You can't go wrong owning this one. It's deeply researched, and is quite lengthy.

Very good commented version.Kaplan adds a current perspective given the knowledge of later books of Kabbalah like Zohar, Bahir or Luria's Etz Haim.Also the author was a reputed rabbi, so he had the knowledge of the Torah of Sinai to interpret the text good enough to not get lost in translation.As a physicist, he is very good at relating the mystic language with our current scientific knowledge of maths and physics.As for the formation of a Golem or meditation, the reader will understand how it works fundamentally, yet I think the book does not necessary explain all the nuts and bolts of it.

Above and beyond what I expected. Students of 'Western Qabalah' and Hermeticism *should* read Westcott, but this is truly THE essential version of the Sefer Yetzirah. All the major versions of this great text are included, and Rabbi Kaplan makes great progress toward uniting the discrepancies and uncovering the deeper mysteries of the texts. In addition to literally being a genius, Kaplan explains things in a way that makes them easily understood for anyone with at least a basic background in Qabalah.

This book is bar none the best book on Qabala out there. You will see how much Western Magick (Golden Dawn and Friends) twisted the primary source material to make the tarot (or the way they saw it) correspond to the letters etc. This book is great for anyone with some knowledge of Qabala, as it alludes to things you might not pick up on or be able to expand on otherwise. The author really reveals deep inner mysteries without a lot of BS. This is the third time I have bought this book and every time I open it something new is revealed.

Each page is dense with esoteric information. This is not only a book to teach you the tenets of Qabala as you may understand it, but also a great deal about the holy language of ancient Hebrew - which is, in fact, a very important aspect of true Qabala. Qabalah, at it's core, is about a sort of literacy of biblical Hebrew, the language of Creation.

Extremely informative but not for the simple at heart. You will need to read this book many times as you work your way through the various stages of existence. You will also find a path to walk or a door to open; you may not alway enjoy the road but you will always appreciate the journey it takes you on.

Requires, surely, several re-readings. Not an easy one. But is the way to go to grasp meaning and understanding of Kabbalah.
