About the Author
Edward Gorey (1925-2000) wrote and illustrated such popular books as The Doubtful Guest, The Gashlycrumb Tinies, and The Headless Bust. He was also a very successful set and costume designer, earning a Tony Award for his Broadway production of Edward Gorey's Dracula. This is my second favorite of all Gorey tales, behind only "The Doubtful Guest." The story concerns Embley and Yewbert, who, after hitting each other with croquet mallets, have quite an adventure on the bicycle in question.One of the beautiful things about Gorey is the number of interpretations that are possible. In all likelihood no two people will take the same thing away from his stories, which immeasurably enhances the reading experience. As in all Gorey tales, this one contains extremely peculiar turns of phrase, and this one has the bonus of seemingly randomly numbered chapters, although it took me three times through the book before I noticed.This is a delightful introduction to Gorey, and is one of his distinctly less macabre stories. This book is wonderful fun for all ages and is highly recommended.
Epipleptic Bicycle is my second favorite book right after the Gashlycrumb Tinies. The story of two siblings who go on an adventure on a found bicycle. Without revealing too much, there are a number of interpretations for such a simple book. But being that this is a Gorey, it is quite possible that they are all true. There is dark humor throughout and the possibility of demise. You might also enjoy a fairytale about a little girl and a haunted house in the tradition of Edward Gorey: The Stumps of Flattop Hill
The grand adventures of two naughty children and a "found" bicycle. May or may not involve time travel and mud puddles. Guaranteed to make your kid smile and immediately demand another Edward Gorey book....

This is an awesome book. It can be read to a 3 year old or by a 30 year old. It is a lot of fun.
It's not for everyone. It's perfect for me. I love the bird and turnips.
